Costa Blanca
The White Coast extends from Denia in the North to the Mar Menor in the South, a distance of over 400 Kilometres. It stretches inland to the City of Orihuela and includes the valleys of the Marina Alta. It has one of Europe’s most equable climates with over 300 days of sunshine each year. The summer temperatures range fro 25C to 35C and they often reach 20C in the winter months. Remember, though, Spain does get cold at times during the winter.
Coast Calida.
The warm coast has one of the most pleasant of climates, according to the World Health Organisation. It stretches from the Mar Menor in the North to the Province of Almeria in the South. Annual rainfall averages 5 to 6cms on the coastal plain, although the inland mountainous region is slightly wetter.
Health.
The micro-climate of both regions mean that winters are almost always frost free and, although temperatures can rise above 40c in Summer, the climate remains equable for much of the year, when compared to the UK weather cycle.
The Mediterranean diet has been accepted by the World Health Organisation as being one of the healthiest in the world. Towns and villages throughout the area hold a market on a regular basis, where fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, meat (and much more) can be purchased at very reasonable prices.
The Spas at Fortuna, Archera and Mula are considered to be therapeutic as are the mud baths at the famous Mar Menor.
Airports
There are currently 2 airports serving the region, both with daily flights to and from most UK regional airports. Alicante (El Altet) Airport has International status and has all the facilities you would expect from a large and expanding airport. An hours drive to the south,Murcia (San Javier) Airport, on the edge of the Mar Menor, has grown rapidly in recent years and still retains a Spanish Airforce training base. A new International airport,30 minutes inland from San Javier, is currently under construction, close to Murcia city, due to open late 2010/11.
